New Year's Day Reception

By convention the Bailiff of Guernsey holds a Reception at 11:00am on New Year's Day morning.

The Reception is attended by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor.  At noon, His Excellency proposes the Loyal Toast and then speaks about any Islanders who have received a national honour in the New Year's Day Honours List.  The recipients are invited to attend the Reception and His Excellency proposes a toast in their honour.

The Reception lasts for approximately an hour and may be attended by any Islander.  No prior invitation is necessary.  It is also attended by members of the judiciary, including the Jurats, who wish to pay their respects to the Bailiff and His Excellency.

Attendees are expected on arrival to present a visiting card or equivalent to the Secretary of the Bailiff

Typically, approximately 130 to 150 Islanders attend.
